It’s another typically sunny day in Venice Beach, the kind that makes even the pastiest pallor take on a golden hue, and seems to bring out the dog-walker in all of us. John Kilar is in a particularly good mood, being as the sun is one of the only things he can’t live without.

“I got involved with photography when I moved to Venice from Hollywood,” he says in a recent interview. “I live right on the boardwalk, amidst all the batshit craziness and steps away from the water. It helps me stay sane.”
